If you like competition you can join Shackleton Crew, the team that Shackleton has created to fully enjoy the sea and sailing. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have experience in this area; we will give you training on sailing itself and also on teamwork.
We have designed a programme for that purpose. It is divided into modules which tackle specific issues to do with sailing, along with the basics of a race:
- Module 1. Manoeuvres: This module will address the main sailing manoeuvres: tacking, jibing, lowering and raising a sail, among others.
- Module 2. Trimming: This module will deal with the trimming of all the sails and the aid instruments.
- Module 3. Tactics and strategy: They are key elements for an ideal sailing. It is all about defining, distinguishing, deciding, planning and acting.
- Module 4. Posts and rotation: This module will explain the different navigation posts on the sailboat, and all the crew will learn the basics of each of them.
- Module 5. Tiller or rudder: This module will address the operation of the tiller or rudder.
- Module 6. Currents, tides, winds and areas: In order to take advantage of every opportunity and avoid risks, it is essential to understand the context of the sailboat and the circumstances that affect it.
- Module 7. Rights of way, rules and flags: This module will look at aspects such as rights of way, ranges, starts and the layline, among others.
Other races might come up off schedule, or even sports events organised by Shackleton.
